Our obsession with colorful margarita cocktails continues and this time KQ host Mitch Hightower shows you how to make his recipe for an Orangecello Margarita. This mix is less sweet than a classic margarita, yet still has that amazing orange flavor we love.

NEW VIDEO: Jalapeno Margarita

NEW VIDEO: Jalapeno Margarita

Kitchen Queers host Mitch Hightower gets busy in this episode as he demonstrates all of the steps needed to create the Jalapeno Margarita, including how to make colorful kosher salt. Mixed with sanding sugar, Mitch then shows how to fashion a sparkly salt-sugar rim on the serving glass. Next, Mitch creates an unusual cocktail garnish using a jalapeno pepper segment and a maraschino cherry. The technique of muddling is utilized to infuse the cocktail with plenty of fresh jalapeno flavor, and a double-straining technique is demonstrated which prevents jalapeno seeds from winding up in the finished beverage. KQ partner Chef Philip appears as the guest taste tester for KQ Season 4, Episode 6, Number 66.

You likely know from reading this BLOG that I'm a big fan of silver tequila.  I also like bold and brightly colored cocktails.  This mix is a great tasting tequila drink, and the intense color makes it perfect when you need a pink Signature Cocktail.

TEQUILA: Why Silver is Better Than Gold

Above: The KQ Blue Tequini cocktail made with silver tequila.

TEQUILA: Why Silver is Better Than Gold
by Chef Mitch

When we think of precious metals we usually associate more value with gold than silver.

But the same isn't always true for tequila.  Unless the tequila is very high-end, aged tequila, the gold color you find in the more common brands is created by adding caramel to the mix.  Not only does this change the color to golden hues, it also adds a significant amount of sugar and creates an oily consistency.  This is why gold tequila hangovers are so nasty.

Silver tequila, even lower-end brands will give you more natural tequila, (agave), flavor.

In this posting you'll find three of my favorite tequila cocktails.  They're easy to make and the bold colors create a great presentation for a party or other event.

Cheers!
